Flooring Installation in Chicago & the Suburbs
Hardwood, engineered, vinyl plank and tile — over a subfloor that is ready.
Overview
Flooring Installation — the work in detail
Most flooring complaints are subfloor complaints. Hollow spots, squeaks, lippage at tile joints and gaps that open in the second winter usually come from a floor that was not flat, not dry or not properly fastened before the finish material went down. Prep is unglamorous and it is most of the job.
LCD Construction Inc. installs hardwood, engineered wood, luxury vinyl plank and tile throughout the house, and handles the part underneath it: subfloor repair and re-fastening, flattening, moisture considerations below grade, and clean transitions between rooms and between materials.
What's included
- Removal and disposal of existing flooring
- Subfloor repair, re-fastening and flattening
- Underlayment and moisture management appropriate to the level
- Solid hardwood installation, sanding and finishing
- Engineered wood and luxury vinyl plank installation
- Porcelain, ceramic and stone tile with proper layout
- Thresholds, transitions, stair nosing and shoe molding
How the work runs
The process, step by step
Every stage below is handled by LCD Construction Inc. — you are not hiring the next trade separately once the previous one leaves.
- 01
Assess and measure
Existing floor, subfloor condition, height differences at doorways and how the level affects material choice.
- 02
Tear out
Old flooring removed and hauled away, fasteners and adhesive cleaned up.
- 03
Prep the subfloor
Squeaks fastened out, damaged sections replaced, low spots filled, and the plane checked before anything is laid.
- 04
Lay out
Direction, starting line and seam placement planned to sightlines, and material racked so grain and color mix evenly.
- 05
Install
Nailed, glued, floated or thin-set as the material and location call for, with the right expansion allowance.
- 06
Finish and trim
Sanding and finish coats on site-finished wood; grout and seal on tile; then transitions and shoe molding.
Materials we work with
- Solid hardwood — site-finished or prefinished
- Engineered wood for wider planks and less stable conditions
- Luxury vinyl plank, including below-grade applications
- Porcelain, ceramic and natural stone tile
Bring your own selections or ask us to spec them. We will tell you plainly what we can and cannot stand behind on material we did not supply.
Timeline & cost
We do not publish a price range for flooring installation, because a number detached from your actual project is not useful to you. Scope, material lead times, permit review and what turns up once the walls are open all move it.
What you get instead is a free, no-obligation estimate for your property: what the work involves, what it costs, and the schedule we expect to hold to.
- Subfloor problems fixed rather than covered up
- Layout planned so seams and cuts land where you do not look
- Transitions and heights resolved between rooms and materials
- Trim and shoe handled by the same crew, so the edges finish cleanly
Questions
Flooring Installation FAQs
The questions homeowners ask us most about this work. If yours is not here, ask it on the estimate request and we will answer it.
Can I put hardwood in my basement?
Solid hardwood directly on a below-grade slab is a bad idea because of moisture. Engineered wood or luxury vinyl plank over the right subfloor system gets you the look without the failure.
My floors squeak. Can that be fixed?
Usually. Squeaks come from movement between subfloor and joist. With the finish floor up we can fasten it back down properly, which is far more effective than surface fixes.
Can you refinish my existing hardwood instead of replacing it?
If there is enough thickness left above the tongue, sanding and refinishing is often the better value. We will look at it and tell you which way we would go.
Do you move the furniture and appliances?
We will discuss that up front so it is clear who is handling what before the day of installation — that detail causes more scheduling problems than any other.
